Should You Judge a Tequila Brand by Their Blanco?

Why is Blanco the best way to evaluate a tequila brand?

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. As soon as you add tequila to a barrel, any barrel whatsoever, it starts to change the flavor of the tequila. And the longer it's in the barrel, the easier is to disguise any flaws and modify the flavors of the tequila.

Yeah, and there's a lot of crappy tequila that's made better by adding things into it, aging it, et cetera.

It's like plastic surgery, but for tequila.

Yeah.

We dig brands that only have Blanco expressions that have the courage to say, Hey, we make good tequila. We're only going to make a Blanco. So brands like Lalo, Entre Manos, PM Spirits, this is all they make and I think that's actually pretty cool.

Yeah, and obviously we also really love Reposados, Añejos. We review them a lot, we drink them a lot. But if you really want to know how great a tequila brand is, try their Blanco.

In Mexico, if you're down there and meet with tequila distillers, that's exactly what they say.

If you want to know how good a brand is, drink the Blanco. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments.
